Used to be a regular here 20 years ago and am glad to see at least one place in Uptown has survived the yuppie invasion intact. Great place!

It appears that people that dont like country western or southen rock dont like Carols. If you dont like country why are you at a country bar? Carols is friendly, safe, and a great dive bar. I have been there many times and I will be there many more times.

I first heard about Carol's from my parents (I know, lame) who used to go in the late 70s with their cab driver buddies. Believe it or not, my parents actually must've had fun at some point in their lives, because I have a blast every time I go there! I've literally had some of the craziest nights of my life there running into people, from my college admissions counselor to an ex-fling (who unsuccesfully tried to get me kicked out). I've also met some interesting characters there...and you would too if you went!

If you go on Wed. or Sun. night it is ok. But if you go on Fri. or Sat. night be prepared to be elbowed and wait 20 mins. to use ladies room because the place gets PACKED. They go way past the limit the bar is supposed to have in there.

You will love Carol's if you are lucky to be there on a peaceful day...but if you are there on a typical day when drunks smash bottles on the wall, have bloody fights and wake up the hood, when sirens rush to pick up the injured..well...is horrible.

like the jukebox, good authentic country music, could do without the yuppies trying to NOT fit in, please.....

I love Carol's, which is odd because I'm not a huge fan of country music. Everybody there makes you feel at home, the bartenders are really freindly, and its a great place to just kick back and have a couple of drinks. I live in the suburbs and don't get to the city much, but everytime I'm there, I'm sure to stop in.

My dad used to play music at Carols for several years and I was trying to book a gig there, but I guess they don't book bands which I think is too bad. Would've been nice. Well- everyone should come by Lilly's on July 2nd during the Country Music Festival. Our band will be playing country music that night in honor of my dad, Jimmy Nichols and the Nashville Cats. Jimmy died July 2, 1995. Carol's wont have us, but we wont let that stop us. Come over to Lilly's and you'll be tappin your foot to some great country music on July 2nd. 5pm. www.myspace.com/jamienichols, www.tunesbaby.com/jamienichols, www.slavetoappetite.com.

The karoake night on Thursday has people singing a lot of songs that are not country, and attracts a lot of women not much older than college-age (many of them quite chubby and seemingly regular). A 4 AM bar Wednesday-Saturday, Carol's draws the sort of random late crowd associated with 4 AM bars. And it doesn't hurt that it is near the intersection of Clark & Lawrence, both of which are streets that have buses running 24/7. Drink prices are a bit pricey for a dive bar but typical for a 4 AM bar in that area. I do remember being charged a ridiculous $7 for a jagr bomb a couple years ago there though. Located at an interesting crossroads of a lot of different neighborhoods, Carol's Pub is certainly more friendly than the yuppie bars to the west and the more dodgy and unsafe Uptown to the east.

I've been to Carol's with Blacks, Indians, Gays and Lesbians and never had any problem. Everyone at Carol's is there to have a good time, not judge or fight you. Get over yourself Dale. Stop being so paranoid and be yourself. Just because you judge everyone else on appearance doesn't mean they're judging you.
