I made reservations for 20 people for a birthday party and 15 minutes prior to arriving called to make sure that our table will be set for the requested time and I was assured that it will be. When we arrived, it was pretty clear that our table was not even close to being ready. When we POLITELY asked how long the wait might be, in a very rude manner we were told that we are free to leave if we're not willing to wait. It was not about the wait, but it was the manner in which we were spoken to. We asked this "gentleman" why he was being so rude and all he could say was "do you want to teach me how to properly speak". I’m assuming it was the owner, because who else would allow their employees to speak to their customers in such a disgusting way. The only reason we even allowed such disrespect is because we had to think about 20 people that were attending this dinner. We waited for about 40 minutes and walked out. As other patrons of the restaurant were leaving, they were appalled by the fact that their waiter asked them to speed things up since other people were waiting for a table. I’m speaking for 20 people, this was the most unpleasant experience and left a VERY bitter taste in my mouth.

This lil' Lakeview spot is a best kept secret. BYOB is a plus! Slow yet quality service for awesome food! Lamb Marakesh and the kubideh, are to die for.

My husband and I eat at Casbah at least once a month. The atmosphere is cozy and the owner greets many of the patrons by name as they come in. We love that it's BYOB (with a wine/liquor store right across the street to boot!). The menu is not overwhelming but has many tasty options. I've been particularly impressed by the Veal Mt. Olive, chicken with mushroom, and the special that never changes, the Chicken Pastilla (chicken, seasonings, and dried fruit in Phyllo dough). For appetizers we like the Casbah pizza, and their carrot soup is to die for. Highly recommended.

I walked by this place many times and always wanted to try it. When I finally did, I was very pleased. The place is small and intimate. The servers are really friendly and patient and the food is very very tasty. I've already gone back to try new items on the menu and will be doing so many times.

best place ever, for those who gave bad reviews, please stay away because it is small in there and i wouldnt want you taking up the precious space. best food in chicago and nicest patrons around.

by the way,... i came across casbah on the internet and it is listed incorrectly by price and menu...we had appertizers before a show and like i said in my review iv'e had better! for mediteranean food i would recommend you readers to try ANDIE'S on clark or if your suburban... THE SPHINX CAFE in niles..which also includes a belly dancing show at around 8p and even offers hookas to smoke some strawberry or other flavoed tobacco for a real "exotic" evening!

sorry to say but i was VERY DISSAPOINTED BY CASBAH...for one ...it was tiny in there! for two...there was no seperate kitchen it was like a fast food grill right behind the "fireplace" and for three it was way too expensive for the size of the place. Also the one waiter didnt even check up consistently to check if we needed more drinks. ive been to several larger and better looking mediterranean restaurants and even those were less expensive... i also didnt find the food to be that great other locations are way more tasty... it was rather spicy at casbah...not even one star in my book!

I'm glad I took a walk the day I happened past this restaurant. The server, who I guessed owns the place, was very cordial and helpful. When he saw that my girlfriend and I didn't have a bottle of wine (he seemed genuinely shocked) he told me where the closest liquor store was. I said I tried there, but they had a $20 min. on credit cards and I didn't have any cash. The owner said he'd charge another $20 on my bill and gave me cash from the register. We also overheard him talking with numerous other customers. Some were regulars, and some were just in for an appetizer before a show. Apparently, the latter couple had ordered dinner, but had to go just as the dinner was served. The owner said he'd box up their meals, and after the show they could come back and pick them up and the owner would give them an appetizer on the house. Besides that, the food was amazing. It's my new favorite local spot.
