Seafood? More like catfood. Could not eat what was served. Mine had the odor of Lysol and my companion's was inedible. We left the rest on our plates after 1 bite. Sorry, but this was the first time ketchup would not have helped (I even got used to millitary food). What a disappointment. I wouldn't feed this stuff to my cat. And oh yes, they didn't forget to include a surly waiter just for atmosphere. Not recommended.

My wife and I ate there on a recommendation. It was excellent. Great variety and everything was outstanding from service to quality and quantity of food. One of Chicago's best.

I'm really getting kinda fonda this place. I returned for my second visit and it continues to feed both me and my Veracruz (where its cuisine is inspired) fantasies -- those azure blue vistas from "Y Tu Mama Tambien," idyllic tales told by my friend Silvia, whose family is from there. Third time's the charm, but lightning strikes twice in Logan Square.
We began the odyssey with with the Empanadas de Camaron, which should help Americans realise that shrimp is just as tasty un-breaded and un-fried. We then embarked on the Chicharrom de Tilapia (lime garlic tilapia with tomato chipotle sauce and Mexican rice), so fresh you could still taste the ocean, and the Cochinita Pibil (braised pork in achlaote, sour orange and spices). With such VIPig treatment, the other white meat will never disappoint.
We went with the flan-vor of the day, coconut, on the home stretch, and perhaps the creme brulee (the other dessert candidate) was outstanding, but that flan didn't stick around long enough to savor its victory.
When a restaurant is this good, there's often something about it that's special. Here, it's the homemade corn tortillas, and you can feel tender loving in every wrinkle - certainly not mass produced. And that, mi amigos, is what we should call comida del alma. Soul food.

My wife and I also ate at Fonda del Mar recently and we were impressed. This is a very welcoming restaurant both in terms of staff and decor and the food was complex, inventive and healthily prepared. We particularly liked the tilapia entree and the flan. Highly recommended overall.

What a surprise to find this restaurant! The food was excellent, the ambience comfortable, and the service more than friendly. Given it's the only thing in walking distance from our West Logan Square house, and the food is extremely reasonably priced, we'll be back frequently.

Much classier than the rest of Logan Square's Mexican spots/taquerias. I liked the less typical salsas (tomatillo and a rich, deep red one). Loads of shrimp dishes.
