I have been to the Furr Party that happens once a month and it's like the old cell block days with men having a great time , drinking and even dancing. I highly recommend that you check it out!!!!

I am a Chicago resident, and I am here to tell you what every local knows here in Chicago: The Cell block sucks! The alcohol is uses the berg system. Basically a computer controls how much alcohol you get in a drink, and it's not much. Anyone who lives in Chicago and knows REAL leather bars, knows Cell Block is a joke. The manager is a jerk who roams around policing everyone, even for appropriate behavior. One man knelt down next to his Master, and the manager told them not to get "out of hand" even though both were fully dressed in leather. He's really alienated the community here. If you want a real leather bar experience in Chicago with hot guys of every age, GO ELSEWHERE, like Jackhammer, and their bar inside called the "hole." GO to Eagle or Touche, but what ever you do AVOID the cell block at all costs. It's a sorry excuse for a bar of any kind, period.

Was a great place. Thank you Michael for making this visit a pleasant one. Hope you liked the pin, next time I will properly pin you! But to everyone, this is the place for leather/levi men to enjoy themselves and be real men.

The Cell Block is a great leather bar where anyone in the GBLT community can feel comfortable. I am a serious Leatherman, but I like the fact it’s not a strict Leather bar in the front bar, only in the back back bar. So everyone is welcome, the atmosphere is fun and relaxed, the front bar videos are of national events and sports, the back bar has a bar and bootblack station with 3 local awesome bootblacks, the back back bar has a cage, bar and 10 foot chain web. They also have weekly events, a pool table and darts. After reading all these old, misinformed reviewers on here, I felt it necessary to give an update. Many years ago, the bar was owned by someone and the bar was closed for a few months. It was reopened and up until Sept 2005, it was owned by Roger. In Sept 2005, the Cell block was sold to the owners of the Detroit Eagle. The 2 owners deeply care about the Cell block, and even split their lives evenly between Detroit and Chicago. They have updated the bar, added new events and have reacted proactively to the changing leather and GLBT community. The crowd has changed as well, it's not just a pick up joint anymore, like some bars. It has become diverse, there's more than leather guys to talk to, and the bartenders care about the patrons. Soon the new Center on Halsted will be opening a couple doors down, so it's a perfect location for us all. Come on by, there's always people that you can meet, make friends and have a good time!

The best thing about the bar was the bartender, Mark in front. Was there over Halloween weekend. Mark, a former SMU student in Dallas, made my weekend. If anyone reading this has his email information, would appreciate you forwarding this to him jimfrederickstudios.com Great Bar, Great bartender...looking forward to more! WAY to many leather queens, the eagle still is the best place to go for hot leather men.

As far as I know Cell Block is CLOSED. At least temporarily.

Somesort of difficulty transferring the liquor license to the new owners.

Cell Block's lost it's edge since new ownership has taken over. The pub mirrors, scented candles (everywhere) and the lack of *serious* leathermen ruined a Chicago leather institution. Sounds like these two guys bit off WAY more than they can chew. The guys who have worked there for years have left or been fired only to be replaced with clueless faces with vapid attitudes.

Remember what happened to Male Hide? I see history repeating itself.

Hardly worth going to anymore. Since it was sold the new owners are not interested in keeping it a leather bar. Too much cologne, too much hair product. It's just like going to Roscoe's now.

Touche and Eagle are the places to go now.
