BEST middle eastern food I've had! Other than my moms ofcourse. Hole in the wall with tasty hummmus and shawerma...yummy in my tummy! The atmosphere isnt the best but its a fast food style restaurant, so who cares. Anyway you can always carry out and have a feast at home. Yum!

My husband and I adore Salam Restaurant. We've tasted a lot of falafel and nothing beats Salam. Its a clean restaurant without all the silly frills. We are arab-americans who enjoy middle eastern food at its best. My husband wont go anywhere but Salam and we live about an hour away from it.

Can it be that no one's reviewed this marvelous place yet? Check out the great reviews in Time Out Chicago for a place that ditches fancy atmosphere for just about the best, cheapest, freshest Middle Eastern food around. Looks totally uninviting tucked into a little strip mall on Kedzie, but go in anyway. You will be rewarded with the following delights:

*--Shish kebab - beef, wonderfully seasoned and tender; *--Shawerma - beef or chicken, sliced off that rotating spit that looks like gyros but isn't (and frankly I prefer it to gyros); *--Hummus that will knock your socks off - the kind that's very smooth, creamy, and light in color rather than the more granular, yellow kind; *--Fresh hot pita *--19-cent falafels, but Amazingly good 19-cent falafels. Crunchy & extra green inside.

They're making stuff fresh all day here. A whole bunch of guys hustling around washing and cooking and serving. Prices are great. We ate like kings today and took home over a pound of food, and the bill was less than 18 bucks.

Atmosphere shmatmosphere - come for the FOOD! and the prices.
