LESS THAN AVERAGE FOOD AT MORE THAN AVERAGE PRICES IN A VERY NOISY BAR ENVIRONMENT - WITH RUDE WAITERS. TOO MANY OTHER GREAT RESTAURANTS IN TOWN TO BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE.

Horrible host, cramped location, overpriced food. We are locals and have been there a couple of times, tried to go this past weekend (4/26/09) but the host (who turns out to be the owner) was berating customers - when asked "how many?" we both said "no thank you!" and left. We're done with the antics, the rude behavior, the overpriced food. There is a reason Yolk has a 45 minute wait and it starts with the basics. I read some of the reviews posted here; it seems that the 5-star ones are members of the staff (or even the host/owner/manager). The 1-star ones seem to be more on the money. Doesn't matter - for my money go elsewhere.

This owner was so rude to his staff and accused me off being rude to his staff, loud and a bad mother. I called him afterward and he suggested that my duties as a mother were to blame for my bad behavior and that I should seek professional help. All I wanted was a side of mayo and an explanation as to why the place ran out of cups.

What A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE ! ! ! We had 3 families of four, the food was okay, and the OWNER actually insulted me, disrespected me, and threatened me. WORSE RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE EVER... Hear me loudly, WORSE EVER. I am so pissed off that I came to the internet to find as many websites as possible to tell this story - In short, we were rushed to leave our table by the owner/manger because the line outside grew longer and he wanted the several tables that were pushed together for us. The thing was, we had not even been served all of our food. Can you imagine... When I politely talked to the owner/manager he was uninterested rude and obnoxious. The other adults and children were quite embarassed and very angry.
PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. Oh, by the way, when I asked the server what the owner's problem was he simply looked around, shook his head, leaned over to me and said "he's a major asshole".
Well there's the long and short of my story. Chicago simply has an abundance of good restaurants to enjoy, pass on this one!
I was very surprised when I read the review here from Steph from Steph 2/27/08, seems like she had the same experience. I will pray for the day this place closes down, and hopefully while the owner finally looks at this and other websites, while he ponders why his business tanked, he'll read this and realize that it's the customer that pays the bills!
:-)

i will never go in here again. i've been a regular customer for quite some time now, and the owner is beyond rude, not to mention, completely arrogant and self absorbed. he prances around in his silly scarf and poncho, yelling at staff and customers alike. he screams jibberish, making no sense, and is so money hungry it's unbelievable. $1.00 extra for condiment sauces?? his prices and attitude are outrageous. not to metnion i'm pretty certain that he goes out of his way to start fights with his own guests. plus, i've never seen anyone talk to his own team of workers so poorly. he surely must be scaring away more business and employees than he is bringing in. really cute place, good food even, but entirely NOT WORTH IT! brad needs a wake up call.

Last year over Labor Day I went to Eleven City diner and had the best Pancakes I have EVER Had!!! Actually the breakfast was AWESOME!! The service was also great!! I loved it so much that we decided to return again a few days later. This time service and food were AWESOME again, but noticed first hand the arrogant and self absorbed owner at hand. Now the only thing I can think of being a Dallas resident known for great southern hospitality is that he obviously has a bad rap for one reason or another and the restaurant would not be succesful if not being a hard ass. Who knows, as long as he gets the food to my table and my waitress is great, I will keep coming back. As far as the lines go, I hate when people complain about waiting forever and ever when they have parties of 6 or more, it is not the largest place. Keep it small, stick to the menu and all should be fine!! I am going to Chicago again this September for Labor Day once again and the first stop is you guessed it, Eleven City Diner!!

After having a new job relocate me to the South Loop, I would pass Eleven City Diner with the intention of eating there for lunch one day. Today was that day and I left feeling underwhelmed by the prices and quality of food. I ordered the $12.00 corned beef on rye w/swiss that was more like BEEF JERKY, taken how tough the beef was. Add that to no fries, nor drink came with the sandwich. I've been to a few "diners" in my lifetime and even the greasy spoon food has better quality AND prices. My adice is stop selling food and concentrate on the frills of a retail chain, i.e., t-shirts and bazooka gum. I’m having dreams of eating at Jimmy Johns tomorrow.

I absolutely love this place! Every time I go the service is great and the people are so friendly! I've only been a few times, but they remember my name and ask how I'm doing. The food is great as well!

Me and some friends decided to try out Eleven City on the weekend.
The service was VERY mediocre.
Note: I received a COLD cappuccino with my meal.
My friends got their food and we all dug in to our respective meals.
After a few bites out of the tiny cup of coleslaw, I found a large (sharp) bone.
BE CAREFUL when you eat here, its dangerous.

Have returned to London after a long weekend in Chicago and have to say that the Eleven City Diner was our favourite place to have breakfast. The service was extremely friendly and efficient, we were lucky to have the same waitress Coco on both ocassions. The food was excellent and having jazz playing in the background really enhanced the atmosphere. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this diner to my fellow Londoners.
