The previous reviews must be phoney as NONE of the food was prepared fresh. Nothing tasted fresh. I sat their and watched the 'chef' and cooks barely work up a sweat taking previously cooked food out of containers. This place is sad.

It takes serious confidence in your restaurant – serious huevos grandes, if you will – not display a name outside of your inconspicuous Ravenswood eatery. But Dorado has every reason to be confident.
The second I walked in, I was struck by the décor – classic, minimalist lines and colors combined with a few Mexican pieces to create a homey yet classy feel. Service was decidedly superior. Not only was the server exceptionally friendly, attentive, and helpful, she also brought a bucket of ice for our drinks.
After this introduction, even if the food had been mediocre, I would have been impressed. But the food was excellent. I started with the Dorado Nachos, which I feared would not live up to the hype. The ratio of finely-cooked duck to cheese and mole sauce was perfect. For an entrée, I stuck with a more traditional Mexican fare, the Carne Asada Burrito. It was here that the chef’s French training really shone through. The dish had all the delights of a Mexican meal, but also had the thoughtful details present in French cuisine. It was packed with perfectly-cooked steak and fresh greens.
I was unfortunately unable to try their desserts, but I can grantee I’ll be back. I highly recommend Dorado.

The last time Mexico went to France and resulted in something beautiful was when Frida Kahlo showed her work in Paris. More recently, we visited chef Luis Perez's North Park outpost serving French-Mexican cuisine and his offerings were as creative as Kahlo and ya know what? Julia Child would whole-heartedly approve.
We started with the Dorado Nachos and no wonder they're famous -- smoked duck on tortilla chips? Tres bien. Then we had the grilled halibut, living up to its marquee as the day's special as the fish arrived on a bed of couscous tossed with tropical fruit. We also had the Camarones Gigantes con Tequila, colossal shrimp stuffed with crabmeat with spicy green rice and mango salsa which made the mariachis in my stomach strike up a hat dance tune. Dessert (flan and plantanos frito) was a little disappointing, unless you like your postres heavy. But, with such wonderful service, you'd always leave with a sweet taste.
