Well, first of all these reviews are old school and now its 2009. But still, A few comments for the peanut gallery.... last time I checked when u walk up to a crowded bar in chicago you'd better have your drink order ready or you re going get a look of surprise my dear, because first of all you've obviously made eye contact with the bartender which is code for 'please sir may I have another?' This is the law of natural selection, if you take your sweet dainty time ordering a simple beer than you are going to get picked on. Deal with it, really, did you just get so upset to actually go online to write a complaint? As far as I'm concerned I've worked in bars for many years and there is nothing that separates this bar than any other good chicago bar around. No,they don't play metallica constantly,do you actually think they would? Some of these comments are arrogant.Your drink order was wrong, well! thou shall be unforgiven! Ha! Its funny almost. Like any other bar in chicago, I'm sure Highdive strives to make their customers happy. And as all business goes not 100% of customers will be satisfied 100% of the time. Thats business. How about some REAL logical legitimate complaints. Don't skip this bar over these weak, meager comments. Its a quality bar, NOT full of sport watching men. If you have such 'high expectations' then take your ass to a club, the loop or the suburbs.

I like this place. I live close so it is walking distance from my house. I think things have changed here since the place first opened in 06. Bartenders are fine. My drinks are made well. Also - one person said that the clientele is 90% Male Sport Watching Drones...no way. I have been in ther plenty of time and there is a mix of people in their 20's, 30's and 40's male and female. A lot of good looking girls hang out there actually. It is easy to make fun of a place if you only give it one chance - I doubt Metallica's One is always playing. Everytime I'm in there they have bands like Modest Mouse, Band of Horses, Radiohead, My Morning Jacket...lots of good music.

I have been here a couple times now and each time I have ordered something different off the menu and each time, i have been plesantly surprised. For what looks like a jazzed up neighborhodd bar, they got some mean food here. The chicken ceaser pita is fantastic and they just may have the best burger on the west side, beating out the Black Beetle. Service has always been good when I've been there. They have friendly bartenders as well who kept a watchful eye out for when drinks were getting low and waitresses who seem genuinely interested in whether you are enjoying your food. Good selection of musis and their specials are a very good deal. I will definitely continue to frequent High Dive.

Not sure that the other people who reviewed this place were actually ever there...this place is great. Our bartender was attentive and made a good drink. The food was excellent. You should check it out if you haven't already!

Skip this bar. The bartenders are very rude if you dont make up your mind on a drink in 2 seconds or less or you try to ask any questions about their selection. The clientele is 90% male sports watching drones.

Made my way to the bar and ordered a Makers Mark and (club) soda for myself and a Kettle One and tonic for my girlfriend. Five minutes later two glasses are set down in front of me...one of which is a makers mark and coke that had very little ice and just a hint of makers, the other had 3 ice cubes (yes, actually 3) and would have tasted exactly like water if it were not for the lemon that our bartender squeezed it it for us. before i had the chance to send it back our bartender walked by asking if we would like a free rum & coke because she had made someone the wrong drink. surprise surprise. we declined. we walked into the bar at the start of the song "one" by metallica...it was still playing as we walked out the door.
