My friend and I got caught in the rain recently. Starving and tired, we decided that some hot hearty food would be just the thing. Enter the Brauhaus.
Fantastic. The inside is adorable - on this night, we had a man playing German folk songs on the keyboard (recognizable songs at that, not just vaguely oompa-ish sounds), a neverending pot of hot coffee to warm us up, and basket after basket of fresh bread and butter. I ordered the sauerbraten, and it was so tender it almost fell apart. The wine sauce was also very good, hearty without being too think. The potato dumplings were a bit bland, but I ate them mixed with the red cabbage sauerkraut and was pleased. My friend was also happy with her meal, although I was so enraptured with mine that all I remember she ordered was the spatzle, which I probably misspelled.
I would say that there have been major improvements in the two years since the last review, and I recommend the Brauhaus highly.

Yuck!
After having lived in Germany for a year, my recent craving for a good bratwurst led me to this joint. When I checked the menu online, I was amazed that Thuringers jostled with Weisswurst for space on their sausage menu. Yippeee! BUT, little did I know that their Thuringers were going to be Osco Mayer hotdogs (my poor buddy got stuck ordering those - I decided against ordering them because the folks at BH boil them instead of a good old fashioned grilling) or that the Bratwurst I ordered was going to be the BratWORST I half ate.
The beer selection was horrible, the waitress could not tell us what part of Germany any beer came from (which considerably upset my wife... did I mention she's German?).
If that was not enough, the waitstaff was rude - our request for some extra bread with sunflower seeds got shot down with a "We ran out..." just before they deposited a breadbasket full of it on the next table where someone had just started to get conned.
All in all, a sucky experience. This joint is about as German as a MickeyD hamburger. My sympathies go out to the citizens of Thuringen who have such scams pulled off in their name...
