My girlfriend and I visited this steakhouse a few days before the New Year 2009. The online menu was very inaccurate as BOTH of our steaks were DOUBLE the price as stated online. In addition, near of our steaks came with the salad nor baked potato. I ordered my filet medium rare but it came out cooked well done, which is unacceptable. Service was half decent but the waiter seemed cocky. Would definitely avoid if in Chicago, especially since there are sooo many other, better restaurants.

Forget about Gibsons or Tavern, this is the spot. I recommend getting the Chop House special 29.99 NY strip with potato and salad which i get every time. If you love Chicago yyou have to go, inside its like the history of Chicago in black n whites from the stockyards to the mayors of chicago to chicago mobsters and downtown. So my favorite is to eat downstairs, even at the bar sometimes, and flip the piano guy a fin to play Lake Shore Drive after dinner, which makes my experience perfect every time. Oh by the way, waitstaff is excellent, and knowledge of wine unreal. My server recommended a $60 bottle of red that is possibly the best I've had. This is by far my favorite restaurant.

I've kind of made it a mini-hobby of mine to eat at as many fine steakhouses as possble. My wife took me here for my birthday recently and I can say it was thoroughly enjoyable. The atmosphere as stated before it true Chicago, from the tin ceilings to the server uniforms. We had the Shrimp de jonghe (sp?) as an appetizer, it was solid and garlicy but, nothing to rave about. I ordered the 16oz. bone in filet w/ 1/2lb. side of crab legs and my wife ordered the pork chops as we we're sharing. I can honestly say the filet was the most tender cut I've ever had in my entire life to this point, very impressed. The pork chops were perfectly seasoned and amazingly tender as well. The crab legs were well, crab legs but, I wasn't expecting Alaskan freshness anyways. In the end, I highly recommend this place for a great steak and/or pork chops and it is well deserving of it's reputation.

I went to the Chop House this weekend in a group of five. We had an 8:30 reservation but we were held up at the bar for 20 minutes or so while a table was cleared for us. Once we were seated, the service was sub-par. The waiter seemed to ignore us, but it was fairly busy. As for the food... it is hard to go wrong when you go to a steak house of this caliber. I got the filet and lobster tail. Both were very good but didn't stand out to me against other steak houses. What you do get unlike chains like Ruth's or Morton's is the atmosphere. While the dining room was crowded, it has a unique Chicago feel... an atmosphere you certainly will not find at any of the high end chains. I would give this steak house an overall rating of B.

Went to the famous chop house over the july 4th weekend, and it was a big disappointment. Our group included many well educated steak connoisseurs, and the consensus was that the Chop House does not serve a great steak, maybe a good steak. If you are forced to go this restaurant, the only one that was pretty good was the bone in filet mignon, a solid B+. One member of our party ordered the Bone In NY strip and it was mediocre at best. The sides are abysmal, especially the mushrooms which taste like theyre right out of the can, and mashed potatoes which semm like the ones you get at Luby;s cafeteria. The bread and the shrimp cocktail were both excellent. In sum, the chop house serves a good steak, DEFINATELY NOT A GREAT STEAK!!!.The best piece of meat in chicago is HANDS DOWN the lamb chops at Erie cafe ordered medium rare. Trust ME!

May 2006 in Chicago for a week & had to try some local steakhouses.Winner; Chicago Chop House.Staff fine.Ambience; well, we're all there to enjoy steak! Food was excellent. My wife had what she is sure the best filet mignon she's ever had.My NY sirloin was done exactly as requested. Importantly, this all took place on a busy friday evening, so it's a credit to the staff & kitchen that the food...appetizer,entre' & dessert...was bang-on.Big Happy!

I'll add another good review. We went there again, and if it wasn't the best steak I ever had, it was very close to it. Bone-in filet, and oh so good! :) The waiter took the time to explain how it was cut, how it was prepared, etc. Good drinks too! :)

Three of us ate here one Sunday evening last October. Excellent prime rib, sides, and great service. No complaints here. Friendly waitstaff and bartender. Not cheap, though. :)

It sucked. Everything about the experience sucked. We went to restaurant on the recommendation of several people and will NEVER go back. We had to make reservations a week in advance, only to be crowded into a room like sardines. I constantly had to scoot my seat in to let people pass (and I'm not a fat person so it wasn't like I was taking up lots of space). The waiter - forgot his name but he was a fat middle-age prick with a bad attitude. We had to ask another waiter to get our waiter so we could place our order - only for him to read the specials and then leave before we could order. Then when we FINALLY started to order, he actually left our table in the middle of us ordering to serve another table! When we finally got our food over an hour after we first got there, it was sub-par. I was once told that a good piece of meat that's prepared well doesn't need a sauce to hide the flavor. My filet definitely needed a sauce or something. We were so disappointed that the next night we went out to Outback and had better steaks than at the Chop House!

Had dinner at the Chop House on 9/24. We were able to make reservations late Friday afternoon, though we had to choose from 5:30 or 10:00. It was ok with us though! We each had the surf and turf with the filet mignon. The food was excellent! Service was great and price was standard for the Chicago area.
