Hi Terry, that depends very much on the state of the emqpiuent. Professional Gym Equipment is much sturdier than fitness emqpiuent designed for home use. If you purchase weights etc the age doesn't really matter. If you want to buy a treadmill, elliptical trainer or similar check with the company if they still can deliver spare parts in case you need them. If not, I would be very careful. An alternative is to check out Refurbished Fitness Equipment, as they come with a warranty.I hope you find the right piece of emqpiuent

Good gym! Great place to get a good sweat, there is no "stuffiness" about it. The music over the loud speaker gives me energy, love that!

There is an instructor there that flashes his crotch to students. Don't bring you kids there!

I've been a member for a few years and the equipment is the worst its ever been. Nothing seems to be working, and worse, nobody seems to care. Not even the cheap cost excuses the current conditions.

I've recently moved to the Lakeview area and was researching local gyms to join. The main draw to Chicago Fitness Center was the price (if you pay up front its only $400 for 14 months--that's only $28/month!!!). But since I've joined, I've been nothing but pleased. Its definitely no-frills, and yes there is a corner filled with old equipment--but every time I walk in and want to use a machine or weights I can. There's never a weight, there are not people in ridiculous outfits and make-up all trying to pick each other up. Its a great place to just be on your own and work out!

After being a member of the Chicago Fitness Center for nearly 3 years the customer service has certainly went down hill. Not to mention nearly all the equipment is out dated and poorly maintained. But if you only have $40 a month to invest go for it.....but it sucks.

I joined this gym 5 years ago. The rates were low and the equipment was very well maintained. However, 5 years later this club has gone down hill. A good portion of the aerobic equipment (especially the elliptical machines) is outdated/malfunctioning and in need of repair or replacement. About 50% of the time the music played over the speakers is unnecessarily loud, so much so, that if you want to listen to your own music on headphones you'll be out of luck. Also, the womens locker room could stand an overhaul and a cleaning. It seems that the only improvement or update in the last year has been to mysteriously move the check in desk 75 feet from one end of the gym to the other while broken equipment stands stacked up behind the unused original desk area.

If you are short on funds, this is the gym for you, but be careful, because you'll get what you pay for.

The description must be a little outdated, becuase the cost is $40 a month, not $30. Anyway, I didn't want the muscle head environment or pricey membership at the 24 hour gym/tan place on Ashland, so I tried here. I actually like it alot. There's never a wait on cardio equipment when I go, and the guys don't annoy you while you're working out. This is a no frills gym, so if you're looking for a trendy place, its not for you, but if you just want to work out and not be bothered, you'll like it.

I have been working out at this gym for the past several years and for the most part have been pleased. However, lately it seems as though the maintenance/upkeep of equipment has hit an all time low. Since at least August of 2006 2 of the 4 Precor EFX 546 elliptical machines have been deemed "Out of Order". And, a third machine may as well have the "Out of Order" sign on it. This past weekend the machine was making such a loud clanking sound while another gentleman was working out on it that I could barely stand to finish my work out. CFC -- If you happen to read this, please please please get your equipment fixed. Either that or get rid if it. It is misleading to potential new members and extremely frustrating to long time members to have 8 elliptical machines but really only 4 of them work--and that's on a good day."
