Wrap your hands, put on some Everlast gloves and jab, jab, hook. GoTime's seasoned, gum-chewing trainers will make you feel like a
Million Dollar Baby about to make your debut. With a facility that skews more state-of-the-art than gritty training gym, co-owners Ricky Spritz and Chad Robbins have achieved their goal of bringing the fitness benefits of boxing and karate into a health club setting. The doors opened in December 2006, and with the affordable rate of $50 per month, membership continues to build.
Classes: Classes for (literally) all ages, from tots to adults, are held in a regulation karate ring hosts. Children classes focus on leadership—students take turns in front of their peers during each class. For the non-competitive crowd, the workout you get from the karate class is reason enough to sign up. Kickboxing and Cardio Dance round out the class schedule, with Yoga and Pilates thrown in to lengthen your newly-sculpted muscles.
Extras: You can sign up for one-on-one or small group boxing lessons in the regulation boxing ring, which will lure you in like a showing of Rocky V on TBS. A no-frills, old-school selection of free weights, heavy bags, speed bags and a double-ended bag fill the room. Though few, the cardio machines have personal cardio theaters. For an additional fee, an ongoing 10-week GoTime Boot Camp is available for those in need of an extra nudge.
