When walking through the brightly colored doors of Abuelo's Mexican Grill, one is immediately struck by its unique decor. Cleverly adorned walls with pop art, vintage album covers and National Geographic photos are complimented by contemporary furnishings. Hardwood floors and touches of stainless steel gleam throughout. The vibe is easy, comfortable and decidedly modern. But don't let the progressive design choices fool you: When it comes to serving up traditional Mexican cuisine, Abuelo's stays true to its roots.
Abuelo's offerings are made on-site and incredibly fresh. Menu items include all the classics: tacos, flautas, sopes, tostadas, burritos and alambres. Nonetheless, you can't leave without trying one of the ridiculously good tortas (sandwiches). Known as its specialty item, the tortas are served on melt-in-your-mouth warm, homemade bread that will have you coming back for more. If you're in the mood for a full dinner, there are several entree options, including tilapia, or carne a la Tampiquena (Mexican skirt steak) served with black beans, mole enchilada, and salad.
Want a spirit with dinner? Abuelo's is BYOB. And to further keep the meal tab down, menu items are economically priced, with a la carte items ranging in price from $1.99-$7.50, and entree prices peaking at $9.50.
There are also several yummy dessert choices, including the tres leches cake, and a tequila mousse that will seriously make you consider appointing a designated driver.
