Stepping into the laid-back Taverna is like combining all of your favorite places to be (as long as those places are Greece, Spain and Italy).
Angelo's doors aren't propped open for passersby; the tavern caters mainly to neighborhood folk and people in the know. It is a smaller joint, with two-top tables lining one wall and booths in the middle. The bar has sports on the TV and locals bellied up to watch it. Woodwork lines the lower half of the wall and interesting tchochkes sit just above eye level.
You can usually find Angelo there, giving salutations to customers. While his welcoming atmosphere ensures that the bar gets full, his tapas-style menu will keep your stomach from overdoing it. Greek, Spanish and Italian favorites come in small servings (except for the full-dinner nightly specials); the food is fresh and great for sharing. Sangria is the perfect accompaniment, especially in the summertime while dining al fresco on the patio.
You'll get the best bang for your buck on Thursdays when a live blues band plays. Monday nights are date nights; $50 buys you a bottle of wine and dinner for two. Wednesdays feature two-for-one tapas.
