While Fullerton Avenue's Northwest side is lined with super mercados and authentic-looking Mexican joints, you can count on Arturo's Tacos for a wide selection of traditional Mexican eats. Whether you are in search of Huevos Rancheros, chicken gorditas or chimichangas, Arturo's offers it all.
This spacious restaurant sports a plethora of sit down booths and bright, green walls. The extensive, colorful menu is posted above the walk-up order line. The menu offers basics like tacos and burritos, but delves into a long list of house specialties, like fajitas, flautas and even Carne a la Tampiquena, which is broiled skirt steak served with avocado dip, refried beans, rice and salad for $12.95. Arturo's offers a large seafood menu, with options like Seven Seas Soup ($12.95), shrimp cocktail ($10.95) and fried catfish served with rice and salad ($8.95). In addition to the soup and breakfast menus, the Mexican favorites—tacos, burritos, tortas, gorditas and sopes—are all sold individually for less than $5 each. The seasoned, pulled chicken tacos are only $1.60 and are served traditionally in double corn tortillas with lettuce and cheese.
The flavors aren't gourmet and even fairly lackluster in some dishes, but the restaurant doesn't claim to boast world famous chefs. The prices are high for the service and atmosphere, especially when the servers don't speak English, but the servings are generous and the choices abundant.
