Take your classic Mexican bakery, add European flair and some seriously trained chefs, and you'll find yourself at BomBon. Owned by husband and wife team Luis Perea and Laura Cid-Perea, this Pilsen shop redefines the idea of a sweet delight. Formerly of Frontera Grill/Topolobampo, the Pereas offer fantastic sweets for both the casual passerby and fine diner.
Arguably one of the city's best spots to grab dessert fit for a classy dinner party, BomBon's cakes look likes works of art and taste just as priceless. Try the bombazo cake, a chocolate cake with bananas, caramel and roasted pecans, artfully covered with wide white and milk chocolate shavings, or the cake el abuelita, a combination of Mexican chocolate whipped cream, coconut dacquoise and Belgium chocolate mousse.
Beyond cakes, you can sample excellent Mexican cookies (the Mexican chocolate chip are deliciously flat and crisp) and breads. Gourmet pastries line a refrigerated case. A row of tarts appeal to the eye and stomach; try the chocolate version topped with four miniscule cream puffs.
