Located in a quiet corner of the Gold Coast in a turreted brick building, BomBon Americano is a mad swirl of bright pastel walls studded with a battery of old pie plates, muffin tins and jello molds.
Gazing upon glistening glazes, shiny fruit and mounds of piped frosting, you'll want to start humming the Candyman song. Co-owner Laura Cid-Perea has joined forces with her sister, Gaby Zorilla, to execute a fun, perky bakery with treats such as red velvet cake and whoopie pies. Unlike sister restaurants Bombon Bakery and Bombon Cafe, the focus is less on Mexican specialties like tres leches cake and more on American-inspired confections like fudgey, chocolate-coated Boston cream pie, fruit tarts and cupcakes.
If you pop in for breakfast, you can score the J Lo, your choice of a croissant, biscuit or bagel smeared with cinnamon cranberry goat cheese, or a Tarzan with caramelized bananas, peanut butter and raspberry jam.
Lunch takes shape with a selection of salads and sandwiches bearing similarly pop culture-influenced names like the Elvis, a sandwich of roast beef, blue cheese dressing, caramelized onion and mixed greens. There's a full-service coffee bar and plenty of seating to luxuriate over a mocha.
