NOW CLOSED...Formerly: Brett's will close after April 29. Rumor has it that a third Orange locale will open in its spot. Often overlooked among Roscoe Village's row of funky and trendy spots, Brett's Cafe Americain stands alone as the traditionalist, dishing out savory American cuisine in a simple and intimate setting.
Snag one of its sidewalk tables for some heavy-duty people-watching or park yourself inside to take advantage of a little peace and quiet (and a pretty fantastic full bar). The relaxing dining room is such a pleasant reprieve from the action on Roscoe Street that you'll want to stay for the night, sipping cocktails and chatting it up with friends…and, of course, scarfing some delicious grub.
Making everything fresh and on-site, Brett's boasts an American menu with dashes of Asian and Latin American flare. Chow on vegetarian, pasta, seafood and meat dishes in the evening, including chicken piccata and sweet potato tamales; lunchers enjoy a wide selection of fancy salads and sandwiches, like the lobster avocado club. It's the weekend brunch crowd, however, that's really in for a treat. In addition to offering a killer menu (complete with cornmeal waffles, blueberry pancakes, huevos rancheros and mimosas), the restaurant showers brunch tables with mouthwatering, complimentary bread baskets brimming with homemade sweet breads, coffeecake and homemade jam. Now there's a tradition I can stick with! Brunch and lunch prices are pretty reasonable while dinner is bit more pricey at about $12-$20 per entree.
