NOW CLOSED...Formerly: Sometimes the most unassuming eateries serve up the tastiest eats, and Buenos Aires Forever follows the trend. Take in its cafeteria-like setting, fluorescent sign and minimal drink selections (canned soda only) and you'll think you've entered a conventional neighborhood taqueria. Look closer and you'll notice the paintings on the wall (crafted by native Argentinean artists) cost a more-than-modest fee, and the surrounding patrons devour quality skirt steaks and colorful salads.
The picture of authenticity, from the still-sizzing meat parrilladas brought tableside to the flat-screen TV blaring Spanish-language futbol games, Buenos Aires Forever will keep you full without emptying your wallet. The overstuffed, flaky empanadas filled with your choice of fresh spinach and melted cheese or sweet-and-spiced minced meat ring in at only $2 a pop, and a traditional skirt steak, served with salad or fries and best slathered in chimichurri sauce, costs $14.
Adventurous types shouldn't overlook the parrillada doble, a smorgasbord of ribs, sausage, sweetbread and kidneys for two ($25). If that's a little too much meat, try the berenjenas en escabeche, eggplant marinated in olive oil and vinegar. Save room for dessert, as the arrollado roll filled with dulce de leche is divine. It's BYOB with no fee, so grab a six-pack of Coronas if you plan to get rowdy.
