There's something about a diner where the waitresses call you "honey" and talk to each customer like an old friend. Clara's offers generous service, fantastic prices and great food in a friendly atmosphere with plenty of red, vinyl-covered booths for the early bird and club hopper alike.

This spot serves breakfast all day, with early-morning specials that get you two eggs, hash browns and toast for only $2.50, or a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and toast for $3.95. Even if you miss the specials (which end at 11 a.m.), you can still get a three-egg omelet with hash browns and toast for only $3.45. Breakfast options are rounded out by biscuits and gravy, pancakes, French toast and the usual sides of sausage, bacon or toast.

Lunch and dinner items include a killer veggie lasagna, chop suey, fried rice, salads and sandwiches. Dinners range from the simple liver and onions or homemade meatloaf ($5.25, $5.75) to pricier fare like the skirt steak or NY strip ($11.50). Clara (who won't give out her last name) has been running the restaurant for more than 20 years, and can often be seen whipping up dishes at the grill. Be sure to bring cash when you go, and take a peek at the daily specials for future excursions.
