Owned and operated by sisters Marissa McCormack, Rossanna Reformado and Virginia Castro, Espresso Thy Art is a charming espresso-only cafe in North Center. Before the image of three sisters brewing coffee conjures thoughts of MacBeth's Weird Sisters with their "fire burn and cauldron bubble," you should know that this cheery little spot is much more good witch than bad.
Upon entry, the sisters welcome you with milky sweet voices. The smell of rich, nutty espresso awakens your senses. And the walls (painted a color that can only be described as "latte foam") mesmerize you with dozens of pieces of unique local art. In the back, a quaint patio with ample seating and a children's playhouse offers a blissful setting for Sunday brunch, long conversations or hours spent in quiet reflection.
The atmosphere certainly has a bewitching effect, as does the food and drink. The strawberry crepes are sweet and light, the perfect treat to share with a white mocha and a friend. The pesto chicken salad, with mixed spring greens, strawberries and green grapes, is ideal for a summer lunch. The $1.95 price on any flavor 12-ounce latte is enough to make you believe in hocus pocus.
Aside from the lack of drip coffee, the only reason you'll have to complain at Espresso Thy Art is the early closing times (around 6 p.m. daily). You'll swear there was something in your Americano as you return every morning at opening.
