If you thought healthy and flavorful were two words that didn't go together, think again. Falafill, Boystown's falafel stand-cum-salad bar, will offer tasty food that won't threaten your waistline, opening in August.
The concept is simple, yet oh so genius: You purchase a falafel sandwich (on a white or whole wheat pita) or bowl at the counter, then customize it at a salad bar of 20 or so toppings, sauces and dressings. In addition to sampling familiar hummus, tabouli and baba ganoush, you can experiment with more exotic items like bissara (Moroccan fava bean dip), zhoug (spicy chile sauce) and sumac-dusted cauliflower.
In addition to protecting your waistline, Falafill promises not to hurt your bottom line. Practically everything on the menu – which includes sweet potato fries and an array of fresh squeezed juices – will cost less than $6.
The restaurant is partly backed by Chicago-based Middle Eastern foods importers Ziyad Brothers Inc. You can't miss the inaugural location's light green walls and modern decor at the corner of Broadway and Belmont. Hopefully you'll see more locations cropping up soon.
Average cost: <$10
