Editorial Review of Fat Willy's Rib Shack

This brightly colored, well-lit eatery packs a punch despite its smaller size. Across the street from the AMC City North 14 movie theater, it's the perfect spot to catch a quick bite before or after films. Fat Willy's baby back ribs marinate overnight and are wood-smoked to perfection ($14.95 half/$21.95 whole). Much like Honey 1 BBQ, these guys believe in serving slabs fresh and only make a limited amount each day, so call ahead or arrive early to ensure you won't miss out. Rib tips, chicken and beef brisket offer even more variations, topped off by an excellent hot and spicy sauce.

Side and starters include jalapeno corn fritters, baked four-cheese macaroni, hand-dipped corn dogs and chicken wings. Large salads, burgers and fantastic sandwiches round out the menu (sample the pulled-pork sandwich, bursting out of the bun). Desserts include a decadent chocolate-pecan pie, and all items are made from scratch. Appetizers start at $4.95 and most entrees range from $6-$18, with counter service only.

Average cost: $10-$20
