Following in the fine tradition of the other Francesca trattorias, this far North Shore version, nestled in the middle of a strip mall, is everything a mid-priced family restaurant should be.
The portions and pricing impress from the get-go; try the bruschette alla romana, topped with fresh mozzarella, basil and diced tomatoes, or the nicely assembled first-course salad of fresh asparagus, tomatoes, blue cheese, olive oil and lemon (priced $6.50-$7.95). Generous main-course servings of homemade pastas and several tasty chicken, fish and veal dishes, drawn from the "zesty, earthy" cuisine of Rome, make this 155-seat restaurant a good choice for every family member ($11.95-$24.95). Feel free to linger over desserts like tiramisu, creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake.
Reservations are suggested for prompt seating, as Saturdays and Sundays tend to be particularly popular for family gatherings. Service, on the whole, is excellent. Large parties are encouraged to call in advance to set up a Tavoli di Amici, a four-to-five-course family-style tasting. Francesca's North restaurant accommodates business lunches, private parties, catering and carry-out, and boasts a well-stocked cellar of value-focused Italian and American wines and full-service bar.
