With multiple locations in the Chicagoland area, the Golden Nugget Pancake House is the closest thing to a "chain restaurant" on the late-night-diner list. With two locations on Diversey, two more on Irving Park, another on Ravenswood, and one more on Central for good measure, the Golden Nugget is money for those seeking eggs in the a.m., runny or otherwise. Though it does sport whole grain pancakes, as well as non-compote pureed fruit toppings, the Nugget has definite greasy spoon creds. The jewel in this link-sausage encrusted crown is on Clark.
The decor approaches cowboy diner: everything seems to be brown or yellow, save the faux-stained glass murals that grace the walls in the non-smoking section. Don't stray too far from the breakfast menu, as only the lucky will unearth a tender morsel amongst the lunch and dinner items. The Nugget built its crusty empire on omelets, waffles and nicotine-yellow love. And be warned, the booths may look cozy, but they're made from molded plastic destined to jar many tailbones amongst the sloppier set. And unless Homie don't play dat, be sure to explore your meatier tendencies and add a side of bacon.
