Pick up a bottle of your favorite wine and head out to this
Logan Square Italian restaurant that just beams with romance. Once there, sit on any of the dark olive-green leather seats with dark wooden tables and enjoy an evening of good company and fine Italian cuisine.
Kayla’s offers a perfect setting for a romantic evening. The dimly lit dining room is spacious while surrounded with high ceilings and brick-covered walls decorated with only five framed Italian-themed posters and hanging vines. Napkin-wrapped utensils, short wine glasses and clean white plates sit on tabletops. And as you dine, you're treated to the best love songs of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.
The menu offers familiar Italian flare of pizzas ($7.95-$10.95) and pastas ($9.95-$14.95), but they're all done quite well. Appetizers ($2.95-$7.95) include lightly battered and fried calamari and shrimp cocktails while entrees include the bistecca gratinati ($18.95) and tilapia al forno ($15.95), a roasted tilapia with cremini, portabello mushrooms, spinach and white wine sauce. But the real treats can be found on Kayla's "Specials" menu, which includes the chicken diavola ($14.95), a roasted half chicken drenched in tomato sauce with calamatta olives, chile flakes and capers served with a side of perfectly seasoned linguini pasta. The chicken is both tender and full of flavor.
Named after the owner's 8-year-old daughter, Kayla's was opened with much love and affection in June 2008. The only detractor to the whole romantic setting is a single flat-screen television on the south wall. It just seems out of place. But once you've found a table away from the glaring images of college football, you can let the romance flow. So just be sure to bring a date, because Kayla’s is a place best experienced with a significant other.
