Editorial Review of Milwood

After a festive night on the town, the mind and body will cease to conflict with one another and mutually agree on one overarching goal: The pursuit of food, any food, and a lot of it. Preferably something halfway greasy.

Enter Milwood, Wicker Park's burger and pizza joint (named after, one suspects, its two cross streets, Milwaukee and Wood), a clean, classy, respectful joint serving well-crafted, quality-maintained junk food that you will not regret upon waking up the next day.

Aside from the cheerful-sounding "veggie-tastic" alternative, every burger here come cooked to order in premium Angus beef. Along with the typical burger creations are a few adventurous selections. The Southwestern comes topped with guacamole, pepper jack cheese and zesty chipotle mayo ($6.99); while the "blazing burger" pushes the tongue to the brink with hot sauce. All sandwiches truly represent the perfect equilibrium of greasiness, and come with seasoned fries that could easily compete with the more expensive sit-down joints.

Pizzas are the other featured option here, oven-baked and -- at $3.79 a cheese slice (including a fountain drink) quite reasonably priced. Flatbreads, soups and appetizers round out the menu. So in case a whole 14-inch pizza wasn't enough for your intoxicated pals, how about some southwestern eggrolls?

Not a ton going on decor-wise, although the restaurant does faithfully adhere to a black/red color template. While tiny, at least 30 customers could sit comfortably in one of their classic candy apple red seats. Four vertical flat-screens display the menu in crystal-clear quality, while other LED screens play music videos. So if the night is still young, dance away! Although you may want to let your BBQ bacon burger settle a bit before gyrating.

Average cost: <$10
