A Chicago summer just wouldn't be complete without a little all-American al fresco dining along the river. O'Brien's Riverwalk Cafe, open just after Memorial Day until right around Labor Day, offers diners a simplified version of its Old Town restaurant menu, complete with slow-to-sip summery cocktails, beer, spectacular riverside views and those mouth-watering char-grilled aromas wafting through the air.
Grilled American mainstays like classic burgers and signature sandwiches are the focus, along with mini-turkey corn dogs, grilled calamari, buffalo wings and salads. Try the popular steak sandwich, which is grilled and topped with mushrooms, Monterey jack cheese and grilled onions. Or dive into a half-pound black Angus burger topped with melted Roquefort cheese. There are also daily specials and take-out meals – perfect for those downtown on-the-go workers needing a quick, fresh air escape from the office.
The cafe is full service with a wait staff and can seat around 200 diners. Prices are similar to those on O'Brien's main restaurant menu.
Average cost: $10-$20
