Morrie O'Malley's Hot Dogs is another institution in a neighborhood (Bridgeport) full of them. Located a few blocks west of US Cellular Field—or, as the locals say, "Sox Park"—the seasonal stand (open only from April to November) announces the start of baseball season each year.
Morrie's serves up some of the tastiest burgers, Italian beefs, steak sandwiches and Polish sausages in the city. But it's the hot dogs that keep people coming back. It uses Vienna Beef links served up right, with lots of celery salt, mustard, relish, onions and peppers. The fries here are the definition of "crispy on the outside, tender inside." The interior is sardine-can tight and a line snakes out the door during the height of baseball season. You'll see a lot of sports memorabilia, mainly posters and other paraphernalia dedicated to the team Hawk Harrelson calls the "Good Guys." There's no seating inside, but you can make do with the ample patio-style outdoor seating. Shaded and fenced in, it's the perfect fueling station for, or respite from, a long day at the ballpark.
