Wondering what's cooking at Perez Restaurant? Step inside and you might think
you're about to be the dish of the day; the shiny, aluminum-coated walls make the small spot look and feel a lot like the interior of an oven.
No need to worry, though; exotic (for gringos, at least) Mexican fare makes up the bulk of the menu here, with special dishes like albondigas (meatballs with rice and beans) or tortas de carne desbrada (shredded beef patties with egg) in addition to traditional—and tasty—choices like tacos and tostadas. The servings are substantial (especially the enormous nacho plate) and full of fresh ingredients, big reasons why this place packs 'em in daily. This neighborhood favorite fills up at lunchtime and just after work, but you can munch on complimentary chips and salsa while you wait for a table, and the friendly staff does its best to speed things along.
Perez claims to have "the best" margaritas, and the offerings, especially the traditional lime and the modern mango, pack enough of a punch (both flavor- and liquor-wise) to back up the assertion. They work as a perfect cooler for the spicy food here. Be warned: When a menu item is labeled hot…it's no joke!
