NOW CLOSED...Formerly: Some of the best thin-crust pizza in Chicago happens to be made by a highly eccentric Bosnian storeowner in Ravenswood. Pizza Bubamara is like the pizza version of a top-notch, make your own stir-fry joint; choose from an incredible selection of over 60 fresh ingredients while building your pizza.
The list of toppings encompasses the standards, but also contains dozens of quirky options, and the meat choices range from corned beef to turkey breast to pancetta. The seafood options include tuna, crabmeat, oysters, squid, salmon and scallops. And the fruit (yes, fruit) possibilities include cherries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries. Many mushroom types are available as well, along with a nice sampling of herbs, cheeses and vegetables. Since only a handful of pre-fabricated pizzas are on the menu, including the signature Pizza Bubamara (mushrooms, proscuitto, black olives and a single fried egg atop a cheese and spinach stuffed crust), your pizza fate rests mostly in your own hands. It even offers a build-your-own calzone and a dazzling selection of salads, including the Adriatic Dream, a "delicious seafood blend (shrimp, squid, octopus and tuna) served on a cooked onion blossom."
Pizza Bubamara is strictly pick-up or delivery. The delivery fee is $1.75 and the pizzas can get expensive if you are feeling topping-happy, but the price can be worth it if you choose wisely.
