If you can get past the apathetic aesthetic and the tiny size, or if you just want a quiet place to eat chicken tikka, the Star of India makes for an ideal eatery. The austere decor (black and white tiling and floral patterns straight out of Grandma's basement) is hardly awe-inspiring, but there is plenty of food at the chrome-colored buffet from which to choose. Otherwise take a seat and wait for the friendly waitstaff to attend to your needs.
With the exception of the chef's recommendations and the Tandoori chicken, most items on the menu cost less than $10, and the options for vegetarian curries are bountiful. Carnivores will enjoy a variety of kebobs and tikkas. Nan-lovers have come to the right place, as there are not one, not two, but six different kinds.
Delivery is available, though dining-in often proves to be as quiet a setting as your own kitchen: Star of India is a serene place in a chaotic nightlife setting.
Average cost: $10-$20
