Taami is a much-welcomed addition to the West Rogers Park neighborhood. Enter and you will be greeted with friendly smiles; once seated, your server may just give you a plate of sliced kosher pickles. The reason? "Everybody loves pickles," she says.
The rustic tile floors, coupled with beige walls and white ceilings that reflect the soft glow of the low-hanging light fixtures, only add to the welcoming atmosphere. Soon you'll be savoring a meal of kosher meats, salads and sandwiches.
Feel free to keep your appetizers ($3-$6) simple, but it's highly recommended to try their Moroccan cigars – deep-fried rolls of dough, stuffed with spicy ground meat. These cigar-shaped (hence the name) rolls are so fiery, the dish is garnished with parsley and sprinkles of cayenne pepper serving as a warning for those craving mouths. Hefty servings of salads and soups ($2.50-$6) are also bountiful.
Then it's time for the main entrees ($17-$25). The kabobs can be ordered in half servings ($10-$12) with a choice of two sides. With its perfectly grilled and spiced chunks of beef and bell peppers, the shish kabobs is a must try. Order the roasted potatoes and the Israeli salad as your two sides. The fresh tomatoes, onions and cucumbers of the salad add a refreshing touch to the meal.
It's evident, based on Taami's location, it's there to serve the large Jewish population living on the Northwest side. But don't think you'll have to convert to Judaism. With its friendly staff and overall tasty food, it's easy to just sit down, relax and enjoy Taami's kosher cuisine.
