Description
The drive leading into Settler's Hill should provide insight that this golf outing will be a unique experience. The clubhouse, overlooking the practice green, is a renovated dairy barn dating to the property's turn-of- the-century roots as Kane County's "poor farm." And prior to its current incarnation, this was the site of the county's solid waste landfill. Recognized as Illinois' first reclamation project of its type, a variety of terrain confronts the golfer. From links-style holes designed on a landfill vista, to scenic forays into the preserved woodlands, the golf course presents dramatic changes in elevation and ambiance. The par 5, 6th hole, winding along the western boundary of the tract is a picture-perfect blend of woods, water and topography.

Owned by the Kane County Forest Preserve District and managed by Crown Golf Properties, Settler's Hill tests golfers of all skill levels and provides a welcome change-of-pace from the more flatland feel of most suburban courses.
