New Millennium Theatre Company knocks over Santa with this bawdy cabaret revue by the Flaming Dames. Offering a spicy mix of holiday fun, this sexy adult option provides alternative theater fare for those weary of Dickens, nutcrackers and the whole frosty, spunky bunch of Christmas tales.
Not familiar with the Flaming Dames? You’re in for an eye-opener. Brassy and bold, just like their name, the four women in this revue show up in fishnets and clingy red dresses. But there’s more crooning than strip-teasing in this production—although there is one flash of pasties. Performed in a tiny tinsel-covered room at The Spot nightclub, the show features shimmying, tap dancing and a whole lot of harmonizing.
Opening with Bangin’ Bobby Blitzen tapping out holiday faves like “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer,” the dames set the steamy tone by launching into “I’ve Been Naughty," an original tune by musical director Meagan Piccochi. Dubbed with nick names like Hot Cindy Cider and Hot Cocoa, the dames put their own spin on the holidays. “These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things” mentions black shiny g-strings and 12 in a hot tub, while “Have Yourself A Dirty Little Christmas” recommends using “whipped cream and syrup until you both get stuck,” and “The 12 Days of Christmas” features five gorgeous rears and a 12-step program.
But Piccochoi’s clever arrangements of rock classics blended into holiday classics are the revue's highlights. Heads will spin as the Dames sing a lovely rendition of “Little Town of Bethlehem” to the melody of “The House of The Rising Sun.” The 45-minute production gives the gifts of music, song and fun, wrapped in a tempting package of four Flaming Dames. The holiday spirit has never been quite like this.
