| Ballet Legere was founded in 1983. For their first performance in 1984, they performed excerpts from various ballets, plus original pieces choreographed by two resident choreographers. In 1985 and 1986, the Company was commissioned to perform for senior citizens homes, summer festivals and at the Daley Center. For the past 25 years, the company has produced "The Nutcracker Ballet" in it's entirety. The show consists of 120 dancers and 23 orchestra members. In addition, the production boasts of professional scenery, lighting, and costumes. Each year the group performs for over 5,000 school children educating them in the art of Ballet. For many of them, this is their first exposure to a cultural event of this scope. The weekend performances will reach just under 3,000 people. The production provides dance students with the valuable experience of performing in a full length Ballet, alongside professional dancers, actors, and musicians. It has inspired many students to further their education and interest in the art of dance. They learn the rewards of hard work while striving to acheive a common goal. The goal of Ballet Legere is to continue "The Nutcracker" production while improving it in future years, striving to reach out to more communities, organizations, and children. In future years, we hope to mount another ballet to our repertoire.
