The Bowen Park Theatre Company (BPTC) was established in 1986, and in 1990 became a fully professional, non-equity theatre company. A division of the Waukegan Park District, it produces a 3-play subscription series, as well as three summer productions and fourth in December both for young audiences. It performs in the intimate (seats about 100) Goodfellow Hall, a historic performance space in Waukegan's Bowen Park.

It performs both classical and contemporary literature. Past subscription shows have included: "Don Juan in Hell" from Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman; Farguhar's The Beaux Stratagem; Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew, and A Midsummer Night's Dream, Moliere's The School for Wives; Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest; Deane & Balderston's Dracula; Simon's The Good Doctor; Shepard's True West; Chayefsky's Marty; Garland's Brief Lives; Orton's What the Butler Saw; Norman's 'night, Mother; Hecht & McArthur's The Front Page; Ferber & Kaufman's The Royal Family; Bradbury's The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit; Gelbart's Sly Fox; Bolt's A Man for All Seasons; Feiffer's Little Murders; Shaffer's Sleuth; Fugard's Boesman and Lena; Ayckbourn's How the Other Half Loves; Frayn's Noises Off; Sherwood's The Petrified Forest; White & Shearman's Bullshot Crummond; Williams' The Night of the Iguana; and Goldoni's The Fan.

Among their plays for young audiences are: Aesop's Fables, The Wizard of Oz, Rumpelstiltskin, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Amazing Adventures of Mother Goose, The Amazing Adventures of Peter Rabbit, The Amazing Adventures of Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Timothy, the Timid Dragon, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Cinderella, The Princess and the Pea, What Ever Happened to Baby Bear?, The Christmas That Almost Wasn't, The Enchanted Ring, Pinocchio, The Point, Home for Christmas, A Christmas Frost, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Frog Prince, In the Center Ring, The Tough and Tender Troll and The Prince Who Wouldn't Talk.
