Dog & Pony Theatre Company

Founded in 2002, Dog & Pony Theatre Company is committed to producing vital work written by new and under-represented writers. An eclectic collective of artists with backgrounds in theatre, public radio, political activism and religion, Dog & Pony is particularly drawn to work with social and cultural relevance, often exploring how politics and culture affect individuals' lives. Dog & Pony seeks to promote playwrights whose use of language and convention are daring and highly imaginative. Dog & Pony is comprised of a dedicated group serving in a variety of roles artistically and administratively.

To date, Dog & Pony has presented four full productions and twelve readings of new works. The company made its debut with Michael Frayn’s Clouds at the historic Chicago Cultural Center in May 2004. In January 2005, Dog & Pony presented the world premiere of Paul Oakley Stovall’s As Much As You Can, at the Raven Theatre. The company then brought the production New York City for a successful run in the New York International Fringe Festival August ‘05. Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake) was the first show of the ’05-’06 season and was a great success. It was deemed one of the top 5 productions of the year by Newcity and one of the top Fringe shows by the Chicago Tribune. The second show of the season was the Midwest premiere of Osama the Hero by Dennis Kelly. The show was heralded as “passionate storytelling” by Newcity.

Upcoming show: Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake) by Sheila Callaghan @ Theatre on the Lake July 12-16
