Karen Black

Born in Park Ridge, IL on July 1, 1942 as Karen Blanche Ziegler, Karen Black appeared in a number of feature films as an actress, composer, writer and producer. She entered Northwestern University at the age of 15, and left two years later (though she did appear in the 1961 Waa-Mu Show with Tony Roberts). Thereafter she worked in a number of off-Broadway roles, leading up to her critically acclaimed Broadway debut in 1965, The Playroom. In 1966, she appeared in her first big film role in You're a Big Boy Now. Her appearance in 1969's Easy Rider -- alongside Fonda, Hopper, and Nicholson -- made her a star. She appeared with Nicholson again the following year, starring in Five Easy Pieces, for which she was awarded a Golden Globe award. She received another Golden Globe for The Great Gatsby (1974).
