The one thing most independent films suffer from is bad acting. Bad acting can mean the difference between having your film labeled "amateur" or "professional" and consequently may mean the difference between theatrical or straight-to-video distribution. So don't let bad acting ruin your masterpiece -- use experienced union actors with the help of the SAG. Through this union, filmmakers can obtain veteran actors for non-union prices. How? Well, because of the surge in the number of indie films being made, SAG revised many of their low-budget agreements to accommodate indie budgets. Under these contracts, not only are union actors now more affordable, but sets also have the options to have a split-cast (means mixing union with non-union actors). So if you're planning a low-budget film, call SAG and ask about their low-budget agreements. Kit Woods and her staff are more than happy to work with you!
