TheatreSports

Chicago branch of the International comedy troupe formed in Calgary, Canada by British author Keith Johnstone (Improv). Two teams, who adopt a host country, compete for laughs. The audience judges, raising numbers Olympic-style (Compare with a similar group, developed about 10 years later, ComedySportz). From time to time, the Chicago squad competes against those from other cities or countries... Good, intelligent humor.

"In a way," says the Chicago Tribune, "you could call TheatreSports, if not alternative comedy, an alternative to the traditional standup and sketch comedy shows that are all over the Chicago area." "Better than anything I've ever seen at Second City," says Nightlines Weekly's Dominic Hamilton Little. "Finally, an improv troupe worth having in a comedy club environment, says Zanies manager Brian Dorfman. The Daily Northwestern calls it "Hilarious" and "Dazzling." Even radio shock jock Mancow Muller is a big fan.

They don't have a permanent home.
