| Originally from Evanston, IL, William Petersen took his first professional acting class at Victory Gardens, where he also starred in his first Equity production, in 1979's Dillinger. Thereafter, he founded Remains Theater, where he performed in many productions. He has played a leading role in several feature films, including Manhunter, Cousins, Young Guns 2, To Live and Die in L.A., and with friend and fellow Chicagoan Gary Cole in Kiss the Sky. He's been on the recent TV miniseries Beast, the CBS movie The Staircase, and the HBO film The Ratpack. He continues to appear periodically in Chicago-area theatre, including Goodman Theatre's 1994 production of The Night of the Iguana (which he later played on Broadway), and Victory Garden's Flyovers. Petersen apparently discovered theatre because he was a horrible student. After attending Evanston High School and Loyola Academy in Wilmette, he went to Idaho State to play football -- where his grades were so low that they put him in theatre classes.
