For a delightful escape, float into Tsubo's private, sun-filled loft for a full body rejuvenation. With just one foot in the door I was already experiencing an inner peace, welcomed by a space that's far from overwhelming: Tsubo's startlingly soothing loft features sun-drenched wooden floors, luminous lanterns and walls that double as a gallery for local artists.
Although the studio opened early 2006, owners Trisha Kaufman and Jay Holtman have worked together on and off for 15 years, bringing with them a long list of regulars. Through word of mouth, Trisha and Jay's loyal clients have spread the news that Tsubo is a place where there are interesting, fun and most importantly, healthy things to do. After all, "Tsubo" means the energy points on your body that access healing.
Classes: In addition to yoga and pilates, Tsubo uniquely offers nia, a combination of yoga, martial arts, modern dance and jazz dance based on the thought that movement equals health. You'll benefit from the combo cardio workout/tai chi-style breathwork/yoga-esque relaxation. Classes cost $15 ($13 if you register beforehand and $10 if you purchase an eight-class package) and are held in a secluded studio that provides complete relaxation.
Extras: Nail treatments start at $15, skin treatments at $65 and hair cutting and color at $45. Massages, wraps and scrubs start from $65, while unique treatments such as reiki (spiritual healing through placement of hands), acupuncture and ear candling cost $75 and up. Finally, personal training and healthy workshops are offered as well. Appointments are recommended.
